"My husband and I decided to make an old commercial space with high ceilings, concrete floors, and a loft-like layout our residence.  Sometimes such spaces can feel too cold, too modern, or too industrial.  Yet, I wanted the space to be reminiscent of an old French Provencal farmhouse; it needed to be warm, inviting, and authentic-looking.  I could envision the texture and the color palate in my mind, but how was I going to translate that onto the walls?

Next to finding this property, I consider finding Mark Broughton (through an online search for faux painters), one of the luckiest breaks we've ever had! He is that rare combination that every homeowner dreams of when taking on a big renovation project: a gifted artist and craftsman who is also incredibly professional and personable.  He was always on time; he was meticulously neat; and he consistently exceeded our expectations.  What a great investment!  Our walls look even better than I imagined: the light plays off them beautifully, and they set the tone for our entire living space. Everyone says that being at our place feels like being transported to France, including my French husband!"

"When you think of award-winning restaurants, you don’t necessarily think of faux-painting, but you should! Years ago, our restaurant, Bistro La Crepe, was ready for a re-model. We hired Mark to do a small project in one room, but we liked his work so much that it ended up spreading throughout the entire restaurant. He did everything from painting walls and support posts to completing the huge task of creating a marble effect for the focal point of the restaurant, our bar area and the ceiling. Not only did his work win accolades from our regular clientele and tourists, it contributed to our winning “Commercial Renovation of the Year” and “Restaurant of the Year”! With results like that, we insist on bringing him down to Florida whenever we update our space. Mark is an original, both professionally and personally; others have tried unsuccessfully to copy his work and I’ve yet to meet another artist as fun and friendly as Mark is when he’s working. He really can talk and faux paint at the same time!"

"I own the Gold’s Gym franchises in the Wilmington area, and Mark is one of our members. When we decided to open a new Gold’s Gym location, I asked Mark to paint the lobby and other public areas in the facility. Mark understood our branding, our culture, and how we could use paint techniques to maximize the impact of the space. He had great ideas on how to highlight certain areas, define different spaces, and create the right atmosphere for a serious, yet upscale gym environment. We liked his suggestions, and followed almost all of them. We also needed Mark to work around our long opening hours. He delivered 150%, working long hours (sometimes overnight) to keep the project on schedule without inconveniencing our members. I appreciate his skill, but what I most appreciate is Mark’s dedication, commitment and get-it-done attitude. Since that first job, we’ve hired Mark repeatedly for work at our different locations. Gold’s Gym takes pride in being consistently recognized as a company with premier workout facilities, and the look that Mark has created definitely contributes to that overall experience."

"When we began renovating our newly purchased home on the Intercoastal Waterway, a respected area painter suggested I contact Mark Broughton for what would be a challenging interior makeover. We didn't like the outdated "pickled" look of the massive ceiling beams and woodwork, and we wanted a faux painter who could transform the existing wood into a traditional, weather-beaten Balinese look. It was a huge undertaking, considering that literally every surface in our 4,000-square-foot home needed to be repainted: everything from vaulted ceilings to window frames to baseboards! Not only did Mark willingly take on this massive project, he and his assistants worked tirelessly to create the exact look that WE wanted. We couldn’t be more pleased with the final results; In room after room, Mark’s creativity, talent, and passion for his work are evident. I recommend Mark to anyone who isn’t looking for the ordinary, but the extraordinary!"

"We’ve all heard the expression: “If these walls could talk… “; I’m sure that The Brookstown Inn, my property in the heart of historic Winston-Salem, NC, would have a whole lot to say!  Established as The Salem Cotton Mill in 1837, the building was the area’s first factory.  Almost two hundred years later, the entire mill complex, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, operates as an elegant bed and breakfast-style inn with 71 rooms as well as banquet and conference facilities.  While renovating the building, we needed an artist who could paint our large, public spaces in a style that respected the building’s rich history, maintained its old-world charm, and simultaneously served as a practical and aesthetically pleasing backdrop for use as a modern facility for thousands of yearly visitors.  Now, that’s a tall order!  Mark Broughton proved to be the ideal man for the job.  He brought a clever, up-to-date, yet historically accurate look to our ballrooms and public spaces.  Years later, the spaces still look fresh and inviting, garnering frequent compliments from our guests.  If those walls could talk, I’m sure that like me, they’d be thanking for Mark for maintaining their historical integrity while creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere for today’s visitors."

"After an extensive remodel in my home, a problem developed.  Due to moisture, crown molding was separating from the walls throughout the house, the very walls that had just been painted with custom faux treatments by an out-of-town vendor.  Repairing the damage necessitated removing and replacing caulking around the moldings.  This meant that the areas on our walls and ceilings would need to be repainted and re-glazed to match the original custom treatments.  When the out-of-town vendor couldn’t return to fix the job, a friend recommended Mark Broughton of Naked Faux.  Mark did a great job of matching the original painter’s work; it looks as if every brush stroke is original."

"The first time I contracted Mark Broughton, it was for a special wall treatment in the dining room of my former home.  Working with Mark on that project was such a pleasure—he is incredibly talented, very efficient, and a really nice guy.  As Mark worked, we talked about my plans for other areas of the house that also needed attention.  Mark had some great ideas for my kitchen, but kitchen remodels are complicated and expensive; I was dreading the thought of taking on such a monumental task.  But, Mark was so passionate about the potential of that kitchen, he offered not only to take care of refinishing the existing cabinets and the counters, he also agreed to help contract the project.  He completely transformed that kitchen, primarily with paint, greatly increasing the value of the property.  When I sold the house and moved into a loft, I told my interior designer that Mark had to help create my new living space.  Not only does he know his craft, he has creative vision and a great understanding of color.  When I was less than enthusiastic about one of the designer’s color choices, Mark knew exactly how to tweak it so that it better suited my taste and still flowed with the designer’s vision.  In fact, from the coffered ceiling to the Venetian plastered hallways to the luster stone finish in the bedroom, every room suits me perfectly."
